Danielle A.
Private tutor in Townsville, Australia
Education
I have an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Oregon State University which I completed in 2011. I also have an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and a Master of Science degree in Marine Resource Management, both from Oregon State University. I am currently a second-year Ph.D. candidate in Marine Biology at James Cook University.
Experience
I enjoy teaching students and watching their passion for learning come alive. I want to be a tutor because I would like to continue experiencing that and helping others to understand and enjoy learning, while I pursue my Ph.D. here in Townsville. I was a teaching assistant for 2 years at Oregon State University, teaching biology to undergraduate students, and also received an award from my college for teaching excellence. In addition to this, I was also a tutor for the athletic department at Lane Community College. My primary tutoring subject was math, ranging from algebra to precalculus, but I taught almost every subject. I especially enjoy tutoring biology, as that is my passion, but I have tutored writing, math, history, some basic chemistry, and even Spanish.

Hobbies
I am 28 years old and have been living in Townsville for almost a year and a half now. I am pursuing a PhD in marine biology, specifically investigating how statistical ecological modelling is used in conservation planning, using the GBR as a case study. I am generally a happy, quirky person. I enjoy laughing, and getting to know the students I tutor. I think of them as friends as well as students, and I try to find multiple ways to explain a subject if one method doesn't work. My four kitties followed me here from the US, to keep me company while my husband stays behind for work. I love reading (I'm a big fantasy nerd) and learning, and I love inspiring others to see just how cool the world is. I also understand the dislike many students feel towards math (having experienced it myself!), so I always try to relate topics in math, or other subjects, to real-world experiences, to help students connect the subject with their own lives.
